Mr John Fisher has been appointed chairman of tho Southland Education Board for tho ensuing year.—Association.
A Brisbane cablo states that MiRyan lias been chosen leader of the Labour Party in succession to Mr Bowman.
It is reported that Mr Tully, formerly of Featherston/is taking over tho Club Hotel at Dannevirke. Mr and Mrs T. A, Radcliffe, formerly of Masterton, left Welington for Sydney .by the Maitai, en route for London.
Visitors at the Club Hotel, Masterton, include Mr Brookes (Auckland), Messrs Jopp (2) Invercargill), Mr N. McLaren (Bush Gully), Messrs Moss, Midlano, -Fox, Bough, Williamson, "Lesoenr and McKenzie (Wellington). The Mayor of Eketahuna (Mr Edward Page) has accepted an invitation to be present at the luncheon to be. tendered his Excellency the Governor, by the members of the Overseas Chin in Masterton on Tuesday next. Mr Hugh Johnson,-of Plimmerton, late of Otaki, who has been connected with railway work in that district for the past twenty years, has received notice of his transfer to Masterton.
Mr H. F. R;;wson, formerly,of the staff of the Masterton branch'of. the Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of his.transfer to Sydney.
A Christchurch telegram.states that the wife of Mr W. McArley, general secretary of the New Zealand Railway Locomotive Engine-drivers' and Firemen and Cleaners' Association died yesterday.
At Petone on Wednesday, Mr Edwin John Carter,' eldest son of Mr John Carter, of Eketahuna, was married to Miss Elsie May Moore, daughter of Mr E. F. Moore.
Mr F. F. Hockly, who stood for Parliament at tho last general elections, for the Waimarino seat, was lastevening tendered a farewell banquet by the Sandon settlers, prior to his leaving for the north, where he has bought land. Mr and Mrs Hockly were each rmade handsome presentations. r Tho Rev T. G. Butler, who has'been in charge of the Masterton Congregational Church for some time, has resigned from the position owing to illhealth. Mr Butler's medical adviser has ordered him to' a sanatorium. Tho R-ev H. Watson has written the Rev Williams, stating that he is in good health, and hopes to bo back in. Masterton shortly to be present at the opening of tho new church. Mr Watson's letter, which is of interest to churchmen, appears in this month's Church Chroncile.
