At four year's old. he raced in Australia, being beaten by a head in the Craven Plate by the New Zealand colt Loyalty. Stepniak is by Nordenfeldt (sire of Strathmore, Nalinski,\ Meganser, Cracksbot amd other good performers) out of Steppe (imp."* a great producer of winners, including Russeloy (Doncaster Handicap), Mahaki (Wellington Cup), Stepfeldt (Greata Northern Derby, and dam of many orack racers). Stepniak, during the past ten seasons, produced many winners, stakes amounting to £90,000. His stock included such performers as Marguerite, All Red. Vladimir, Gross Battery, Munjeet % Munjista and numerous others. Steppe (Imp.), dam of Stepniak, is by Saunterer (Winner of Champagne Stakes, Goodwood and Brighton Cups) out of Seclusion, dam of Hermit (winner of Derby in 1887. Arrnilla. (dam of PETER PAN) is a member of* the successful Locket family, and to which, belongs Thunderbolt (for many years a successful sire in South Australia), Medallion (sire of Achilles, etc.), Necklace, the dam of Cravat (Metropolitan Stakes winner), Collarette (dam of Collar it). Arrnilla (dam of ; Peter Pan) is a full sister to Cravat and Collarette, by imported Castor, whose progeny have won about £IOO.OOO in stakes. PETER PAN was bred by Mr J. F. NORTHERN CHARMER is a dark bay with black points, and was foaled on December 12th, 1905. He has many points to recommend him as a sire. He has splendid feet and pasterns, plenty af good flat bone, good action, and a sound constitution with a very docile temper. Northern Charmer is not one of those big awkward elks, that farmers try to avoid, but 16 a splendidly proportioned horse, possessing great, imiscle and strength in a fairly 6inall compass. The judge (Mr J; Baxter) at the Masterton A. and T. Show, 1909, gave Northern Charmer special praise for his splendid feet, and considered him a model for a farmers' cla-s? of stallion. He was awarded 2nd prize in the 3-year-old •class at the Masterton A. and P. Show, 1909, and ijiso 3rd prize for 3 vear and over at the Woodville A. and P. Show. 1909. ■ 'Northern Charmer was got by that well-known horse Fernside—by Pride of Strathmore, by Extinguisher. Fernside's dam Darling, by Nil Desperandum. Northern Charmer's dam, Maggie was by Hero by Kelvha, by Prince Royal (McKellar's) by Prince Charlie imp.). The foregoing pedigree is sufficient to show that Northern. Charmer has on both sides the best Clydesdale blood in the Dominion, and his breeding alone should command the confidence of farmers throughout the district. Intending breeders will find it to their advantage to carefully consider the merits of Northern Charmer as he is the stamp of sire to get the claes of all round horse so greatly in demand.
