HAWERA, Last Night,
The Rugby football match Otago v, Taranaki was played, on si wet ground, and resulted in a win for Otago by 18 points to 11. Taranaki kicked off against tho wind, the Otago backs returning well. After a few minutes' play Brown marked and Stohr kicked a- great goal from nearly half way. The Otago forwards followed,, up ; the. kick out : and • Taranaki had a busy time defending./ Wilson' secured a mark g;i a good position; and Cockloft go'aled. This, made the scores level, three all.. Taranaki went away with a rush and threatened the blue line, but Otago* cleared. Cutler then secured at half way and ran through the Taranaki backs and got over. No goal resulted. For some time give and take play followed till Dryden marked and Cockroft kicked a fine goal. Shortly after from a penalty another goal was kicked.' Taranaki were mostly defending Sheehan scored, but the kick failed. '
In the second spell Otago generally were too good, Taranaki rushed down and scored, Stohr converted. Afterwards the ph'.v was more even, but Otago scored again, Cockroft verting. From a penalty Stohr also kicked a goal. The game ended IS points to 11.
