RAID ON BOOKMAKERS
TWO MEN ARRESTED.

Owing to the Marton races beiug held this week, Detective-Sergeant Cassells has lud tho bookmaking fraternity under -closa observation.' His inquiries resulted in considerable con* sternatiou'being caused in the bare of the Duke of Edinburgh and New Zealand Hotels this afternoon. " Senior-, Sergeant Rutledge visited the firstmentioned hostelry, and arrested Harry Wales. At tho same hour DeieOv.'.'C C'as?p'ls went to the New Zealand Hotel and appr eliended "Paddy" Le Seur. There' was a great scatter in the latter hotel. When searched Wales wa.s found to hay© over £BB in his possession, whilst Le Seur had £l7. They were brought before Mr W. G. ißiddeil, S.M., ot 4 o'.colck, and charged that being bookmakers they each made a bet with one Charles Smyth. They pleaded not guilty, and were remanded till next Wednesday. Bail in £2O each was allowed, and was immediately forthcoming.
