CONDEMNS AMERICAN ATTITUDE.
(Received Last Night, 11.25 o'clock.) VIENNA, September 2.
Tho Austrian Press condemns the American attitude in regard to the Panama Canal.
America jeopardises the. development of international arbitration, it says, especially if friendly countrines like England and America will .not accept the services of The Hague Tribunal. The newspaper Zeit-thinks European retaliation would result unpleasantly for America.
RESCINDING TOULS EXEMPTION CLAUSE.
(Received Sept-ember 2, 9.15 a.m.) WASHINGTON, September 1. Senator Simms has secured the support of tho Inter-State Commerce Committee of the Senate, and next session will presg his Bill for rescinding the Panama provision exempting coastwise vessels from tolls. There is increasing public opinion favouring Great Britain's attitude.
President Taft's efforts to make out a case have convinced some of his own supporters that Great Britain will not act further until the December session of Congress.
