LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

The V^ ( necessitated a postponeirient till vh, afternoon of the N.Z. Ladies Go.f Championship tournament. The second round of the championship had been set down for the morniu/ but it was played ml tlie afternoon in conjunction with a bogey handicap. The links were in good order after the hfeavy fall of rain, and not in tho least sloppy, lhc second round was really the first trral of strength, as the first had,- with one exception, proved a series. of easy wins. The most salient feature in tha day's plav was the defeat of Miss L. Brandon at the bands of Mrs McCarthy, of Dimedin. after a close contest. The champion was very "much Vff form. Tho game in which most interest was taken was .that between Mrs Slack and Miss Gould, it -hww won bv the,-former. nft«r a splendid, exhibition of golf, by 6 up and 2 to play. The senior bogey handicap competition was won by Miss P. Anderson, on« do«n. The iitninr division fell to Miss Mis. R'Vbniond. 4 down, who also secured first place in tho junior stroke handicap on Thursday. Lodger beat Miss Anderson, 6 and 5; Miss Collins beat Miss Fisher. 7 and 5: Miss Wood beat Miss D. 'Hindmarsh. 3 up; Miss Hannay beat Miss L. Ledger. 2 and 1; Miss G. Gorrio beat Miss Cotter, 5 and 3; Miss Slack beat Miss Gould, 5, and 3: Miss Burnes beat Miss Theomiiv, 3 and 1 ; Miss Tweed beat Miss Cowlisbaw. 4 and 2; Miss Robieson beat Miss Kettle.
