NOBBLING THE WOMEN.

NEW YORK, August 31
At a conference of Progressives at Vermont, Mr Roosevelt pledged himself to give votes to women. Many women are participating in the Presidential fight. One named Jane Adams has nominated Mr Roosevelt.
Other planky in the Progressive platform are one day's rest in seven for all wage-earners; air eight hours' day for women ; tho preventing of industrial accidents; and rural development.

NEW YORK, August 30,
Speaking at Cclumbus, Ohio, President Taft explained the exercise of his veto power. His friends had told him that if any king had acted ap Taft did. his head would drop into the basket. Mr Taft had retorted that he mist act according to his conscience, even if hi* head fell into the basket. The trouble with the present-day reformer was that he wanted reforms put into force overnight, and have them ready by breakfast-time next morning.
