THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL.
The Hon. R. H. Rhodes appears to he quickly adapting himself to the responsibilities of his office. Possibly there is no branch of the public service which lends itself to the application of modern business methods more than the Post and Telegraph Department, :uk* if the new Postmaster-General will strive to bring this Dominion into lnie with other countries, he will receive the credit for having at least attempted an important reform. The telephone service, in'itself, could be made of much greater value to the country than it i« at present. The cheapening of cables would be a great achievement, and the adapting of the parcels post to the necessities and eircuihstiinces of the people would be a distinct advance. Mr Rhodes has scope for a good deal of energy and much business aptitude control of his Department. j
