U is stated out of 1G en-gine-drivers and firemen in tho Waikato Miners' Union at Mruitly have seceded from that body and have joined the Waih'i Engine-drivers' and. Firemen's Union. Membership cards will shortly come to lumdj and iitiiic<; of v.-itlidrawal from the WfVrkato Mirers' Union will 1)0 giver, l>y the enginedrivers and firemen this week.
In. a letter vo.ecivod from Iluntly from ono of those conversant with the position, the attitude of the Hr.ntly e:ijrine-dvivcrs is clearly expressed:
"We. have thrownthe glovo down!' the letter proceeds, "if the Federation wants fight they can .htivo i:. Many others who havo been so long afraid of the Federation of Labour and its methods will eventually arrange themselves o.u our side."
A further communication states: —1 "Notwithstanding all' tlio intimidation - wo have been subjected to by tlio Waikato Miners'.Union, and in spito of the manner in which the militant portion of that Union packed the en-gine-drivers' and firemen's meeting and obtained possession of the chair and controlled the.meeting to a great extent, we aro more determined tlnvi ever to resist them to the utmost The militant portion of tho Union are under the impression that they have completely bluffed us. They never made a greater mistake, for our notice of withdrawal will bo sent to the j Waikato Miners' Union during this week."
