RAILWAY RATES
(By Telegraph—Fress Association.)
WELLINGTON, Last Night.
A deputation representing about forty sawni.illcrs, situated ne.ir the Main Trunk line, waited on L;:e Minister of Railways to-chy, with a request that certain anomalies in the rates charged on the carriage of timber by rail from the Main Trunk country, as compared with the Rotorua and other lines, should he removed.
I The Minister said that he could hold out no hope of the request being granted, if it meant any reduction in the railway revenue. So great were the charges to be met this year, that the whole question of differential rates would have to be gone into, but the matter would be held over iv.itil the new/general manager of railways was appointed.
