APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES
MOTION RESCINDED. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough 'Council iast evening Cr Prague!!; in accordance with notice of motion given, moved than the resolution cariie-'l at •> orovious nifeting entailing the appo/'ntment of Gas and Park Committees, he loicihded. Cr Pragnoll said that he had had experience of hoth methods of doing business in the Council, and ho was sure that it would be a retrograde step to resort to special committees. Under present conditions councillors could gain all information they might require by going to the heads of the various departments. As far as' the Park oval was concerned, ho was i sure that more advancement had been ' made during the past two years than in the previous ten. Cr Prentice, in seconding the motion, said that he thonglit the whole thing was out of bias, as the original appointment of committees had 'not been rescinded. The Mayor explained that any resolution passed bv a majority of tho Council was binding, without any previous resolution being rescinded. Cr Ewington maintained that without casting any reflection on the work of Mr Jackson, custodian of the Park, whom they all knew to bf> 'r>n excellent caretaker, he was sure that the Park had not made the nd- , vancement during the past two yearn. ■ that it would have done had p' Park Committee the work in hand. He was pure' tbere was a majority of the Council in favour of committees. Cpr Flanagan and Donald spoke in favour of the committee system. On the motion being put to the Jraeeting it was carried.
