LIGHT LINE RAILWAYS
There is ti danger of the agitation for light lino railways being overdone. \ In factj once they are countenaeedl there is no knowing where they, will end. The Evening Post sees this peril when it says: "The Government could, have many districts tied to itby 'light lilies.' Wc do not pretend to know the last word that can be said for or against light railways for particular localities, but we do know that if once the Government ventures into the light-line business, it j will not lack applications —by agitation and deputation, overt and covert. It is obviously a case for very careful inquiry and conscientious study of all available information about the working of light lines in other countries. It would not be difficult, in some parts of New Zealandfi to rnshinto a course of false economy with light lines. The proposal will be popular, but the Government, on its own admission, has to put sound business principles before popularity."
