LONDON, August 25,

The fusing of a wire in a test-box at the General Post Office paralysed thousands of others. The loss of power interrupted communications inland and on the Continent. Temporary emergencies measures prevented the complete isolation of London. It is feared it will he-a week before the the normal service is restored. RAPID REPAIRS. (Received August 26, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 25. The wires are being rapidly repaired, and there will be a full and efficient service by to-morrow.

The fire is attributed to a defective electric circuit.
