According to a private- cable received,in Dannovirke Mr J. A. Wilson, a* former resident of Kumeroa and woty known in Da'nnevirke, died in Sydney on Wednesday last.
Tho death occurred on Friday at Thames of a very old resident of that district in tho person of Mr Carter,.father of Messrs Fred and Claud* Cater, of Palmerston North.
The friends of Mr. J. 11. Pauling will he pleased to hear that yesterday he .showed 'signs of slight improvement.

Mr Arthur H.. Ftillford-.-a resident of Wellington for nearly forty years* died, at his: home at Brooklyn en Saturday at the age of forty-six years.
The death occurred nt Tailiape, 0n:.,, Friday of Mr Soren Thomasen, one- , of Ekotalniiia's earliest settlers, in his 68th year. Deceased only recently disposed of his interests in Eketahuna and when he left for Taihape' was evidently enjoying the best of health., He leaves a grown-up family including Mrs Lawrence, of Eketahuna, and Mr R. Thomasen, of Nireaiia.

Coming to New Zealand in the early 'fifties Dr Mussen served throughout the West Coast Maori War, both in the capacity of medical officer and of volunteer. Ho served!" under ■ General Cameron and. Colonel and was also attached i<y the Forest Rangers under Major Von Temosky. At the rplief of PipirikL Dr Mussen; was attached to the reexpedition. His last servicewas with the Kai Twi troop under Captain Bryce, brother-in-law to Br Mussen.
