A PUBLIC BENEFACTOR.
The bequests to charity and educations made by tho late Mr T. G. Macarthy, of Wellington, afford an example in public-spin tedness and generosity which is- without parallel in this part of the Dominion. It is not for us to inquire how tho deceased gentleman became posy?ssed .of his wealth, nor why he tlid not choose to bestow his benefactions during his-life-time. Tt is sufficient to ■ knowthat in his last will and testament, he devised that practically the whole of his earnings in life should bo spread over tlie community. This is an act, which, in it-p?lf i stamps tho man as prtfsesrod of humane instincts and noble character. May we hope that the impression created upon the- public mind by his munificent gifts will be an incentive to others to follow the example he has so worthily set?
