BANKS AND LAW v. STOCK AND STATION AGENTS. -

The annual match between the representatives of the Banks and Law and Stock and Station Agents and Dentists was played on the old show grounds yesterday afternoon, the interest taken in the fixture being evidenced by the large crowd of spectators that was present. During the half time interval the heads of firms held their annual race over 100 yards. This event was the main attraction, and there was considerable enthusiasm as the competitors lined up. The winner turned up in T. Jordan, who was in front all the way, and won by a yard from Gawitli, who finished second with a great burst of speed and beat Wilson by half a yard. The winner was loudly cheered.

THE MATCH

The Banks and Law, who woro black jerseys, won the toss and play|ed with a slight cross-wind in their favour. The Stock and Station I Agents, Mack and white, kicked off. 'Jordan picking up well, kicked well down field and the blacks set up a strong attack. The whites were put on the aggressive by a good kick by Williams, and Messenger'following up 'fast made a good run and scored first blood for the Stock and Station. The try was not converted. The blacks, playing with great dash, soon had , the" whites in. trouble, and from a j good opening made by Dorset, Jordan and McKenzie swept down field, the former making light of the opposition, scoring in a good position, amidst loud cheering. The kick at goal failed. At half time tiro whites were pressing, but no further score resulted. From the commencement of the second spell the of whom Tressider, Jordan and McKenzie were prominent, attacked strongly. Ghamberkiin from a nice run just failed to score. The whites were showing visible signs of tiring, and were unable to hold their opponents. Lees, by good following \\j), registered the next score for the blacks. An easy kick at goal was missed. '.Hie whites now pressed, but good defence by Moran staved off the attack. The blacks missed several easy kicks but continued to press. The next score came by Chamberlain scoring after a good run. McKenzie failed "with the kick. The whites now made a last effort, and for a few minutes had their opponents in trouble, but the blaek backs were very safe. When no side was called the Banks and Lav were leading by 0 noints to 3. For the winners Jordan, Lees, Tressider and McKenzie were alwavs prominent, while for the losers Scrimgeour, Williams and Iggul; I den were the pick. Mr B. Chapman ( was a capable referee.
