The. State Department etonsidors the condition in Nicaragua sufficiently serious to warrant the despatch of 2000 bluejackets and marines to <•:;(?- guard foreigners' lives and property.
The cruiser California, has been ordered Panamnward. The transport PrairifvL'as heon ordered to embark 700 valines, and will depart for Colon. The bluejackets will be sent by rail across Panama, and embark aboard the Clifornia, which will leave oromntly for San .7iian del Sur and Covinto.
According to reports received by the State Department, a detachment of 5000 Nicaragua!) troops defendei the city of Leon unsuccessfully. cbels besieged them, captured the town. and massacred the entire force of regulars, only seventy men cscanin.g. The goneral conditions throughout Nicaragua are chaotic.
