AN UNUSUAL CASE

INVERCARGILL, Last Night
All unusual case was heard before, ) Mr Cruickshanks, Magistrate at Otau- ! tau to-day, when Samuel Arlow, a miner at the Nightcaps mine, was charged with obtaining 5s 6d by means of false pretences. The miners at the Nightcaps are supplied with metal tokens, bearing the mjner's number, and these token« are affixed to a truck filled by the miners, who are paid Is 2d per truck. The evidence showed that Arlow had substituted his taken for those ci other minors, and obtained payment for three trucks filled by his mates. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £6 ;/ but subsequently reduced it to £2, as the cpsts amounted to £5 10s.
