It is a savour ylittle political morsel that is offered our readers this morning over the payment of costs in connection with the Hine charges. ic. would seem that the Ward Government, although in no way involved in the charges, made itself responsible for the costs of counsel for iho respondents. At anyrate, these cost: 1 ■ have heen paid by the country. The explanation given by Sir Joseph Ward 'will only' serve to make the -o<isit ; on the more extraordinary in the public eyesight. The manner in which Mr Massey dealt with the business show.-; that he does not regard the trnnsicition as at all proper.
