Wairarap.v representative football team played kelson representatives at Certerton. yesterday, the game resulting in a run-away victory for the home team by 48 pointy to 5. Nelson won the toss, and Wairarapa kicking off brought play to the blue (Nelson) twenty-five. Two free kicks to blue for offside play saw Wairarapa on the defence. Tait, Thompson and (ironbe defended well, and <Grouble threw off tho attack by finding the line in the blue's twenty-live. The gieens then had a> turn at attacking, and pressed th e blues. Tait, the Wairarapa full back wag very safe, | and got in some fine line kicking. The j Wairarapa forwards, were putting in ! some splendid work, and from a for- | ward rush, Hodge following up last, | scored the first try for Wairanpn. j Sandel failed to convert. From the ! kick off Groube returned well and | Hendersain following up put in a good run for the home team. O'Brien, a few minutes later, picked the bail up quickly from a scrum, and working the I blind side scored cleverly. Sandel j converted. Wairarapa 8, Nelson 0. j The bill was .now transferred to tho green's territory, where from ramo looso play the ball was shot out to Nelson backs, who, after a nice rush, scored. Yereoe converted, making tho scores, Wairarapa 8, Nelson 5. An interchange of kicks followed. From a line out Grouble secured the ball, and cutting in cleverly scored in a good 1 position, Sandel converting. Wairrtrapa 13, Nelson 5. After some given and take play, Thompson picking up very cleverly, made a .twee run, and passing i at the right moment Spackma.n seor- j ed. Sandel failed with the kick, Wai- I rarapa 16. Nelson 5. At this stage j Nelson were kept defending, and good work was put in by Saunders a.nd Yer- j coe for Nelson. A good cross kick by Thompson saw Sandel just miss scoring, Nelson being compelled to force. From- the kick off Hodge put in some great work, and was unlucky not to score. At this stage Yereoe, the Nelson captain, had to leave the , field, having hurt his knee. From 1 a line out i,n the blue '25 Bond scored a nice try. Half-time was called, with .Wairarapa 19, Nelson 5. In the second spell Nelson were kept busy defending, and very rarely reached the j Wairarapa danger zone. Tho green J were now carrying every- I thing before them, and generally a score resulted when the greens got within- striking distance. The Nelson* backs were strong in line finding, and got in several splendid kicks, , but on the whole Wairarapa always held the upper h ind. Sandel made a good opening from a line out, and Groublo taking well, passed to Sievers who scored. Sandel failed with the kick. Wairarapa 22, Nelso.ii 5. From this out Wairarapa were con- " tinually scoring. A good opening made by McKenzie resulted in Spaceman touching down. Sandel with a good kick converted. Wairarapa 27, el,so,ii' 5. From a line out in the I blue twenty-five G'roube, cutting in,' cleverly, scored. Sandel missed the kick at goal. Wairarapa 30, Nelson 5. A few minutes later Spademan, kicked. a goal, the ball striking the cross-bars arid dropping , over. Wairarapa 33, Nelson o. The play was now continuously confined to 1 Nelson twenty-five. McKenzie, from a scrum, opened up the game by passing cleverly to G rou be, who scored. Spackman added the major points. Wairarapa 38, Nelson 5. A free kick to greens saw Ross pick up and score I an; easy try. Spackman converted with a good kick. Wairarapa 43, Nelson 5. Tho final score came from a nice back rucli which started at the half-way line, and ended in Sievera touching down. Spackman again coil- ' verted. The final scores were Wairarapa 48, Nelson 5. The play needs little comment, Wairarapa all through j held the uppe'r hand. The forwards > ilayed a splendid game. Hodge, HenlerwJU', McKenzie and Bond being alvays prominent, although the remain- i ng men also played well. In the jacks Groube, Thompson, Tait,. and Sandel. were particularly sound. The Velsou backs, especially Saunders and Vercoe were very good. Smith in the 'orwards was the pick. Mr E. McKenzie was referee.
