PASSAGE OF SHIPS CAXAL BILL AMENDED. (Received Last Night 11.30 o'clock.), WASHINGTON, August 15. A joit.it conference lias cancelled tlic Senate provision which gave a free passage through the Panama Canal tu American ships engaged in foreign trade. An amendment embracing the Senate's general principle was adopted, covering railroad-owned ships, and the relations between railroads and. steamship lines. The prohibition of trust-owned .ships remains, and also the free passage of American coasting vessels.
