THE MIDLOTHIAN SEAT PLACATING THE MINERS. (•Received Last Night, 10.10 o'clock.) LONDON, August 14. The Master of E-libank, in a letter to the Times, states that his recommendation of Mr Brown, tho Labourite, us a candidate Tor the Midlothian seat, was due to the conviction that a majority of the miners were a moderating and restraining influence- within the labour movement. He spy& that wlien the immediate irritation over the Midlothian contest is passed, perhaps it will be possible for those in authority to widen tho outlook and consider how to embrace within the Liberal ranks the best democratic forces in the land. He concludes by hoping that the miners will not prcsi> tho candidature of Mr Brown.
HOME RULE. GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS. (Received Last Night 11.30 o'clock.) LONDON, August 15. The Dundee Advertiser states that tho Government is closely watching the doings of Mr Bonar Law and Sir Edward Carson. After referirng to Sir Edward Carson's recent speech in reference to Home Rule in Ulster, t;" paper adds that in the event of disturbances in Ireland the Government will act with the utmost rigour, irrespective of tho offenders' position.
