ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
BY MINISTER OF THE CROWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. In answer to questions in the House of Representatives this afternoon, Ministers stated that the matter of the Government establishing cold stores for fruit in districts where settlers arc prepared to give sufficient guarantee will receive consideration. The Department of Agriculture hasnow in preparation plans and. specifications of frnit-camiing factories, and will shortly be in a position tosupply these documents, free of charge, to persons proposing to establish the industry. The question of granting monetary assistance will receive consideration. The Government is'opposed to this system being established in the country. There is no foundation for the rumour that the Queensland cattle tick exists in New Zealand. The Government has decided fo grant free railway passes; up to 100 miles, for competitors at rifle meetings. The question of the oath of allegiance will very likely be dealt with m a Defence Amendment Rill. The question of light-line railway* is under consideration. Cabinet inquiry is being made into the working of the maternity homes, and on the receipt of reports it will be decided what- steps will be taken in order to supply full information as to the general management of the homes, and particularly with respect to the allegations made against, the management of the home at Auckland.
