The monthly meeting of the Mastorton County Council Avas held yesterday, there being present —Crs \Y. •1. Welch (chairman), J). Foreman, J. Miller, A. J. Percy, I>. J. Cameron, A. Murray, C. C. kobbell, and R. F. It. Ueetham.

A letter from Mr J. C. Ewington, in reference to motor cars, was held over for the present. Mr A. H. Tinkum, of Te Ore Ore, complained that the drain in front of his property had been blocked up .by travelling stock.—The matter \ras left in the hands of Cr Percy and the engineer, with power to net. Mr J. C Kviington asked permission to lay a tramway along the Miki Miki Road.—Permission was granted, on the usual conditions.

Mr James Cavanagh notified the Council that the culvert en the Te Ore Ore District Road, near his property, had been blocked. —The engineer was instructed to remove the obstruction. Messrs I'tellings and Pragnell. solicitors, wrote on behalf of Mr T. W. McTveiizie, complaining that water had been diverted on to their client's property at Homo-bush, doing considerable damage.—The matter avar referred to Cr Percy and the engineer to deal with.

Mr A. Cro*s complained of damage done by the Makora, creek. —This mattor Avas also referred to Cr Percy and the encineer.

Mr C. K. Coeklmrn-Hood wrote, offering to legalise a road +o connect with the Wninui-o-Mnmi Bead, hut objecting to the- route at present prnoosed. —Tt AA-.nt decided to thank Mr CeekhuHi-TTnnd for his offer. The Eketahunn Countv Cm'tici! r.sl--ed for payment of the Council's shar° •\f license f n r<: for heavy traffic, and intimated that they Avould claim onehalf of such fees in future. A request by C. B. Cox for the use of certain timber lying on the roadside was declined.

An application, from H. E. Duckett for permission to use certain planks from the Waipoua River was referred to the engineer.

On the motion of Cr Murray, the engineer AVas instructed to have' a road, at Tiraumea. leading to Mr Leach's homestead, located and surveyed.

The Castlcpoint County Council notified that efforts Avere being made to revert the heavy, traffic back to Castlcpoint, with a vicAV to obtaining a reconsideration of the Masterron Council's decision to demand payment of one-eighth share of the total expenditure on that section of the main road .towards the- upkeep of which the Castle-point Council now contributed. The report of *h'o meeting of + M Finance Committee, held in the morning Was read. The treasurer reported a credit balance at date of £1297 12s lOd. The receipts for the month (including £1975 16s 9d subsidy), amounted to £2079 Ok Gd. Accounts as presented were recommended for payment.

The chairman moved. Or Murray sec- ' onded, and it was carried, "That it be a recommendation to the Council from this committee to inform theEketahuna County Council that the. proportion of waggon license fees which this Counci; agreed to pay over to the.Eketahuna Cciti'ty Council has already been handed over as far as jxisLing liscnsefi are concerned, and that the Council is not prepared to pay over move than 20 per cent, of such fees in any case." It was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Cr Murray, "That the question of dealing with the offer made by Mr J. H. Eeardon to sell to the Council his cottage and sundry tools, situated on a small Government reserve on Saunder' Road, he left in the hands of the mover and the County engineer to accept or reject »s they may think proper, after receiving particulars of Mr Roardon's term of the land from the Survey ' Department, the engineer to inspect the building and report to the mover as to its condition." It was resolved. "That this.commit- ] toe recommends the Council to agree ' to pay the cost of preparing and exe- ! cuting a deed of dedication by Mr i Macara of sufficient land along his boundary to widen Totara Street to the full width of one chain."
