RACING DIVIDENDS.
When Parliament dealt witli the Gaming Act a year or two ago, it impn--3d one or two restrictions which, though apparently designed to reduce the gambling evil, had aio other effect than to inconvenience totalizator patrons and open the door to fraid. There was, for instance, no earthly :e;so:i why newspapers should have been prohibited from publislvng tocalTaior dividends. Everyoody who is interested in racing, and. t'jo.o wlio :ro not, may gain all the information they require from tho man in the street, a few hours after the neing, and form a fairly accurate idea of what the dividends are by the order of preference published by the newspapers. We venture to aay that the non-publication of dividends has had absolutely no effect in minimising the gambling evil. Why, then, should such an absurd restriction continue, to the inconvenience of a considerable section of the community?
