Neilson, of Mauriceville, will regret to learn thathe has been compelled to enter a private hospital in Masterton, to undergo a' rather serious operation. The employees 011 Te Awaite station have presented their late manager, Mr 0. A. Bunnv, with a very hand-< some gold watch. A cable received in Pahiatua sta-i tes that Mr W. W.McCardle, Mayor of that town, under went a successful operation in Melbourne last week. Mr Dickie, M.P. for Selwyn, is at present a visitor to Masterton, and is. a guest of Mr R. Williamson, of Cole Street.
The Rev A. M. Johnson, -Vicar of St. Paul's, Wellington, is at present on a visit to Masterton for the benefit of his health. The HOll Thomas Mackenzie, High! Commissioner, is at present in Tara* naki, bidding adieu to his constituents prior to leaving for London. . , , Mr J. C. Ewington has been re* elected chairman of directors of the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company.. ' . . The death occurred at Rongokokako, near Eketahuna, 011 Friday last, of the wife of Mr J. P. Lomax. The deceased;, ed lady, who was sixty-five years of 1 age, was a daughter of the late Mr M. Read, for many years governor, of the Wellington gaol. Sister McCosh Smith, who has been' for 4£ years on the nursing staff of the Masterton Hospital, and who was recently appointed to a similar position in the Timaru Hospital, has been presented by tJie staff of the local' institution with a handsome travelling-' rug. During her stay in Masterton, Sister McCosh Smith has been held in high esteem by her companions, by the patients, and by the public generally. All will join in'wishing her much happiness and .success in her new sphere of labour.
