PROPOSED AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.

Ihe Masterton A. and P. Association is displaying commendable enthusiasm over the question of the .establishment cf an Agricultural College in- the Wairarap.i. Some montliy ago a reiresentative conference was held in Masterton, when the importance of the provision of Agricultural Colleges was itrongly emphasised. Tho result of the agitation started in Masterton hat* been the decision of the Massey (Government to establish two Colleg-s : li New Zealand. The question now arises, why should not one of wiase institutions be established in the Wairarapa? There is no part of tho Dominion where the conditions nremove favourable than here. The Wai•.'arapa has its freezing works, its model! cheese and butter factories, its cer-eal-growing lauds and its pastoral pursuits. It possesses ail the elements, in fact, which are .neeessirv to the 'successful institution of an Agricultural College. It is t»'iie that under the Campbell bequest Auckland is entitled to a Chair of Agriculture in its University. This should afford a stronger reison for the Agricultural College being established .elsewhere. If tho A. and P. Associations and local bodies of the district bring combined pressure upon the Government, we have .;io doubt that the claims of the Wairarap.i will be recognised.
