The a.\vard of the Joint Conciliat.on Board appointed to inquire into the Newcastle colliery troubles; particularly, the miners' demand for the abolition; of. tho afternoon shift, while- refusing to abolish this shift, recognised ■that tho mens' daims are worthily of special consideration The award embodies a revised, scale of wages for wheelers and surfacciucw, carrying a-:i increase of from Is to ls> 6d per day.
A minimum rate of 8s per day, to any class of coL&icry labourers has been fixed.
