DRIVERS' DISPUTE
OF INTEREST TO MASTERTON. A dispute has arisecv between the Wellington Drivers' Union and employers, numbering several ■ hundred trjde&men of alii classes, in Wetl'img--ton, Feilcling, Ashluirst, Rongotea, -Hjilimerston North, Levi it', and Maotertdn. The claims m-adi'e by the union and filed by the Olerk of Awards (Mr E. M. '.Shocker) iniclude provision for a working- week oi'47 J liourti, including ifcime occupied in attendance on horses, denning iliarnoss, was-liing vehicles, and 'bockfrig in tf.m/3. The minimuin wage | asked for b £2 14s per week for drivers of one horse, £2 18s for drivers of two Jior.«?s,, and 4s per week extra for each additional bora? driven or attended to; casual .labour to .bepiid for at | the rate of Is Od per hour, with 1-s 9d I per boiir ns overtime after eijrht -hours ai:ul a-half work in one day. Overtime worked by permanent pinployppn shall lie paid for at tho rate cf Is 6d per hour between 7 a.m. aril 7 p.m.; at 2« per hour, with a minimum.of Is, betweon 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. : and xt 2s 6d per hour on Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Sunday. Youths j.hall be paid at the following jutes: Wight ecu to nineteen, years, £2 -l.s per week ; ;rif-te-en to twenty years, £2 5s per week.
