Mr H. G. Nees,'an old and respected!, resident of Wellington, who died this, week, was the father of Mrs James Scott, of Masterton.
It is reported that Lord Liverpool' is-to succeed Lord Islington as Governor of New Zealand. The ' report*, however, is not confirmed.
The death is reported from London' of Sir Thomas Bothwiek, who waschairman and senior partner in the firm of Thomas Bothwiek and Sons, who h&fre large interests in the New; Zealand frozen meat trade.

Mr Peter Paxton died at Bay ltoad, Dunedin, on/Monday evening. He came to New Zealand with the 65th regiment, and served in tho Maori War. Later to Dunedin where he occupied the post of defence storekeeper.
Commissioner Richards, the commanding officer of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrives in Masterton; this evening. This is the .first occasion, upon which the Commissioner lias visited this district, and he is promised a cordial welcome.
Mr L. Minifie, a student from Wesley College, Auckland, is about to spend a few days' vacation with his people in Masterton. During his stay, here Mr Minifie, will fill the vacancy caused by the illness of Mr E. T. Olds. The latter continues to improve, and in a few weeks will be able to take up his work again. Mr T. Cooper, of Masterton, who will shortly join the firm of Messrs Dalgety and Co., has for the past seven years been connected with the firm of Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and not with tlie New Zealand' Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., as was inadvertently stated in yesterday's issue of the Age.
The election of officers for the Farmers' Union for the ensuing year hasresulted as follows: —Dominion President, Mr J. 6. Wilson (re-elected) Dominion vice-president, Mr G. W. Leadley (re-elected); adsvisory committee, Messrs F. F. Hockley. E. Campbell H. J. Richard,s, and H. A. Nevins. Mr W. J. Birch was re-elected' treasurer, and Mr W. Rutherford auditor.
The death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mrs Bernard, wife of Mr W. Bernard, for many years a resident of Masterton. The deceased lady was a sister of Mrs Edwin Johnson (Masterton), Mrs R. Nicholas (Bideford), and of the late Mr John Rayner, of the Taratahi. She was fifty-six years of age at the time of her death, and leaves a grown-up family."
