In presenting a two years' service bar to Dept.-Supt. A. H. Pickering at the annual dinner of the Masterton: Fire Brigade last evening, Mr 0. N. C. Pragnell said that lie had pleasure' in stating that Dept.-Supt. Pickering was the most popular fireman in tbo 1 Brigade.
A very old resident of Manga ta inoka, in the person of Mr Hicks Parker, died at the Pahiatua hosipital on 1 Wednesday. The deceased gentleman, who had attained the great ago of 92 years, is survived by a family of several sons and daughters, amongst .the number being Mr R. Parker, bow ough overseer.
Mr T. Cooper, who lias been identified with the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Ce., Ltd., for seven years past, has left that firm to join thqi firm of Dalgety and Co., Ltd.
At the meeting of the Mastdrtoiir Racing Club yesterday, a resohitiortf was carried in silence, expressing condolence with the relatives of the late Mr C. A. Church, Avhp ; .,waß«th«>'-®' Mes "' first fireman in Masterton to feceive the 25 years' service medal, and J- ■ Archer, ex-superintendent of the •• Napier Fire Brigade, - Another wedding of some interests was celebrated infthe/Kuripuni Methodist Church yesterday, when -» Miss Amy L. Jones, second daughter of Mr* Edward Joiies, an old resident _of Masterton, was united to Mr William 1 . J. Rodgers, second son of Mrs A. E. Curry, of Worle, Somerset, , England. The ceremony was performed byj the Rev. S. J. Serpell, in the presence of a number of friends. The bride was attired in a dress of cream radianta, with silk facingsi and insertion, and: wore the usual veil and orange blossoms. She was attended as brides- , maids by her sisters the Misses Eva, and Evelyn Jones who were attired inr dresses of silver grey and pale pink voile respectively with silk trimmings < and black hats. - A-reception was subsequently held at the residence of t'ho bride's parents.
