Resolutions were 1 - carried- : :';i funning the desirableness of an amendment in the Lieemng.Act in the,direction of ajlowiing licemising elections to be taKen under the-Local Election's Act; also that votitn-g under tlie Local Elections Act he in the same manned- as at genera} elections. It was received that the.Motor Regulation Acjt should be amended, to make Rarcugh ai.i.d County Councils, Town Boards and Road Boards registering authorities hinder the Act; ako that y.ctx'iis 14 and 15 of the same Act be repealed, and provisionbe sub&titutad thai every motor shall b? registered, ano! a fee of £2 maybe charged by the registering authority in respect of a. .motor having no less, than four wheels-, and 10s in the case of a motor with less than four wheels.
Some yuggestioes in regard to more stringent saiiiitary regulations were made by Mir R. T. Michaels (Auckland) ,one being that Councils have the power to charge •for the removal of trade refuse or refuse in excessive quantities, in lieu of demanding a vote. The suggestions were approved. A motion, by Mr E. P. Buiimy (Lower Hutt) that- the expenditure on town clocks on Government buildingy he made legal tinder the Municipail Corporatic.t'.iE, Act was (supported by Mr J. Nash (Palmerston N.), who said that for tkc p»st six years they had pari for the winding of the Governmient clock at Palmerston, and now the Auditor-General refused to pass the payment, as it was not in accordance with the law.—The remit was carried.
It waa .rcsKjlved, "That an amendment W introduced into the various Acts dealing with Government iii(Sari'bed loa.ii* to local bodies,' in the direction of directing the Advances Office to supply local bodies each year with a statement how much has been paidf off the original loan, and that tin's anion if* be shown in the statement of the public debt of the city or Borough, as a set-off a,ga,inst the amount of inscribed loans. •H> jrnis further decided that the honorarium paid to a Mayor should be exempt from- imtxane tax, (/n tlio ground that it iV chiefly u&sd for purposes outeide personal requirements.
