CHESS
A TELEGRAPHIC MATCH. Maslerton chess players mustered in good numbers on Saturday evening on the* occasion of the telegraphic match with the Hamilton- Club. Owing to a black of some kind up north the start was decayed for a considerable time, but when communication was established, Mr Loader, the local operator, had an interrupted, busy time. Eight men. aside took part in the match, the local players being : Messrs Jones (captain), J. T. Dagg, W. Moore, J. Winchester, J. Sedeole, F. Youle, T. J. Thompson, and W. Wickerson. Messrs F. H. Kumtner (President) and C. Winchester were unfortunately unable to take part. One game only was decided, Mr Dagg drawing his game at board 2. The others are mostly in what might be termed the middle gams, but both teams agreed to submit the games to the Wellington official adjudicators. On receipt of their decision details will be published. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr ! Jnder, Mr Loader, and Mr Clough, of the Y.M.C.A., for their assistance. The match, though of so undecided a finish, was a very pleasant one, this being largely due to the work of Mr K. Welch, Secretary of the Chess Club.
