YCSTERDAY'O GAMES.
The pe opened matches cf th& W,iinu'apa Hockey Association wore played yesterday, although as . matters turned cut it would have been much more advsVsablo to have agaiira pestponod tiho games. Two senior matches were; played m South Wakarapa, P. and T. paying Cterterton at Carterton, and St. Matthew'* playing Feathefstoii at Featlierstoji. A junior representative match between North ahid Soiitih was aliso played for the purpc»o Cif Bclcteting team* to visit Well'ing'ton) next month. The anoitch. .in which most interest was centred was the Carterton v. P. and T- match, updn wihich depended the .result of tho Waimrapa Championsihip for the season. P. and T. wero leading by one [point, and as a result'of yesterday's- niatdh, in. which CWteirton defeated P. Amd T., the championship w'MI once more go xo Carterton. The following are the results .of the ga.me 8 : —> CARTERTON (7) v. P. AN'D T. (2). Thi;j match was played in pouring rain, and the ground was moi© adaptable to 'water polo than hockey. It cannot be said that a good exhibition of hockey was given by either side, though the work of the Carterton forwards was exceptionally good, considering the 'conditions. P. and T. at tines played well, but on-the whole Carterton had all the best of the game, and deserved their win. Fisher,
TuirnidifFo ami Reid (Cal'tcrtou forwards) played \ip to their best game, and between them, .notched seven goals. Timtaicliffe was responsible for three, Fisher two and Redd 'two. P. a'nd T. forwards played well, but their rearguard was outclassed by the 'opposing forwards. Mr Pragnell acted ia,s irefctree. featherston (i) v. sp. MATTHEW'S (0). ' St. Matthew's took a weak team to Featherston, and suffered defeat by 1 goal to nil, after a dose amd interesting game, in, wihicl] Featheretoii had most of the 'kick, which is generally prevalent on such a wet ground. Mr 0. Scrimgcour xefereed 1 . In the North v. South junior match, played at Qairterton, the latter won •»y 3 goals to nil. Two Wairarapa junior teanie, A. and 8., will be selected 'from yestei- . day's game, and proceed to WelLing- \ tan'' on the 10th "August, and play a ! series of marches there.
