SCULLING
ARNST V. BARRY
PREPARING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received .July 25, 0.55 ;i.m.) LONDON, July 21. The Port Authority has arranged for four boats to follow the A rustBarry race. The Hon. Rupert Guinness, Commander of the London Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, -will present the .stakes to the winner at Putney. A feature of A rust's training is prolonged 'massage with oils. Barry's training lias hen harder than for any previous raec. The fart of the ehampionship being eon tested by an English-horn sculler for the first time since Sadler did so is heightening public interest.
Arnst is a glutton for work. One critic describes him as relying more on strength than science, but as the late part of his strike is made almost entirely with his arms, his style requires extraordinary strength to withstand the strain over the whole course, especially if the water is rough. Barry sculls with machine-like precision, and has mastered the most important details of respiration. He can d-o a lot of work before, his energy is exhausted, and his prospects are good.
