From time to time the rights of the Europe au 1 popuiaticn, of New Zealand have beeai found to conflict with those possessed by tho .Natives under the VLreaty of W'.iitangi, which was signed 'as -far back as .the Forties. Under this Treaty -the Natives have certain ■right's secured to •tlio.ni, apparently for all time. While it is a .fundamental principle of British justice and con-, stitutional" .government that treaties entered into in good fa ! ith .should be maintained inviolatf., it was fureJ y •not contemplated that the term® ot w, treaty «!lioudd not be subject to review, variation, or a rescinding order. In the C:.ise of the \Vaitangi Treaty, tlie time has arrived uilien its te.rrris should be reviewed .by Parliament, in so far as they conflict with presentday conditions, 'and if lit cannot be ' abolished-, lit certainly should bo amended.
