'A dteastroiTS fire broke out at Foxton at an, emrly Ihour yesterday marning, reefuil'Ung in the destruction of several buildings in the principal •business thoroughfare. 'According' to tihc- New .Zealand Tunes, the outbreak began . just •north of White's Hotel. A! foirisk southerly wind prevailed, winch eaved the ihotel, driving the flames northward.
As the town lias no fire brigade and no water supply the residents, wore ■unable to present any practical ;re'3iistanee to 1 the fire, which spread rapidly.
The following places 'we.re destroyed : E,racist Phil's 'tobacconist .shop and liairdr.eissing saloon.
