The Hon. W. Eraser, Minister of Public Works, proceeds to Te Kuiti on official business.

Miss M. Williams is the only elocutionist of Masteiton who is competing at the Napier Competitions. Mr Herbert . S. Claughton. L.T.C.L., and formerly of Masterton, has been engaged by the Auckland City Council to give an organ recital on the new Town Hall organ next month.

Chargo-Nurse E. McLeod has been promoted to the position in the Masterton Hospital rendered vacant by the resignation of Sister McCosh Smith..

The death is announced by cable from London of the Rev. Charles Voysey, founder -of the Theistic. ffihurch.

• Mr B. J. Dolan, formerly of Masterton, has dissolved the partnership in the legal business of Dolan and Ferguson, of Napier.

The death occurred in Greytown on Monday of Mrs P. Smith, relict of the late Mr D. Smith, at t'he age of 71 years. The funeral takes place today.

The Hons. R. Heaton Rhodes, F. M. B. Fisher, Dr. Pomare, with the Inspector-General of Hospitals (Dr. Valentine )have intimated their intention of being present at the official opening of the Buchanan Home at Greytown to-morrow.

Mr C. E. Daniell, ; of Masterton, goes to Wellington to-day for the monthly meeting of the Harbour Board. Mr G. R. Sykes. M.P., proceeded to Wellington yesterday on business connected with his electorate. Mr D. Kennedy, who is well-known in the Wairarapa, and who has been acting as sub-manager of the Wanganui branch of Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., for the past twelve months, has now been permanently aopointed to the management of the Wanganui and Taranaki districts.

The remains of. the late Mr Charles Wilton were , interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon: In spite of the rough weather there was,a lengthy_ cortege of relatives, and old identities.

Sister McCosh Smith, of the nursing staff of the Masterton hospital, lias tendered her in order to take up a similar position in the Timaru Hospital. At the meeting of the M'asterton Hospital Committee yesterday, the resignation of Sister McCosh Smith was accepted, and it was decided that ahe be given a testimonial, expressing the Committee's appreciation of her past services. Sister McCosh Smith has been H years on the nursing staff of t)he Masterton Hospital.

On Thursday last the Very Rev. Dean Power, vicar pf St. Joseph's Church, Hn.wera. celebrated his silver jubilee in the priesthood. Throughout the day the dean received numerous congratulatory messages from all parts of the Dominion. At a public meeting held in the evening Dean Power was presented with an illuminated address and a cheque from his parishioners.
