COST OF EDUCATION.
Tlie Inspector-General of Stihools presented a return to the Education Commiasicn in Wellington yesterday, which showed tlwt the cc-st of edueaition in the Dominion had nearly doubled during tho last twelve years. This- is a matter while'-, must create 'some I'jr.ieaisincas in iihe .minds of the [people. The fact that tlie coat lias iiiiK\reui-jed enormously is probably due ito itjlie facilities offered duiting the last few yoan-s for obtaining technical and E-econdairy education. YV'hen we consider that not one penny has .been expended in- preparing the children for '•tibiae rural pursuits fciv which so< many are intended, we hive a right ilo feel aforaned at the condition of affivirs which obtains. How much of tlie education, vote is being absolutely squandered nobody can tell. If a tfitfrough system of vocational instruction is r.et the Dominion wall suffer a kes in manhood far moire serious- 'tban! t3iat wlkih cn,n be esti'niiited in pounds, duil:-ngi& and pence.
