THE COUNTY ROADMAN.
ITo The Editor. ] _ Sir, — At the last meeting cf 'the Maaterton iCbunty Council, tlio newlyfledged Councillor Percy gave utterance to some remarks concerning the roadmen of the County, and strange to relate, the County Engineer, who was present, acted "the mute" in not fulfilling his obvious duty in defence of his employees. Now, Sir, tlhe ratepayers, and the Councillors (except Cr •Percy) are .fully satisfied with . the ■work their men perform, noiwithsfcan'ding they have to r-'de- or perhaps iwalk sonie ten anilec 'to their work, and- "graft" in a:ll -sorts of weather. I pity the petition feken up by this Councillor >m< tryinlg to c'ast a istigmu on a .most efficient Ic.lass cf men. who hire-not afraid of uneetiaig oven Or. Parcy in any class of work. So long as Mr McLachlaii! w Satisfied" with their work, Cr Percy 'should . .rest assured that h'i>3 mite of taxation is not mis-spent.— I am, etc., * VERITAS. Master ton, 18 th July, 1912.
