It is understood that Mr F. W. Lang, M.P., is to be appointed Chairman of Committees in the House of Representatives.

The death, is announced of Mrs T. H. Ross, a daughter of Mrs Knell, of Greytown. The deceased lady was/ bom in Greytown.

Mr J. C. Cooper, of Mast<h-ton, has been confined to his bed for several' days with sickness. His many friends will be pleased to hear that he is now improving.' ~ -

Mr Bland Rayner, of Maisterton, the well-known, breeder of stud Romney is on a visit to Dannevirkc, says the Press.

The death is announced at Hawksburn, Victoria, at the age of 84 years, of Mr Jacob Gerbes, a.well-known resident of Invercargill in the early days. " .

A well-known and highly respected" resident of tho Winton district (Southland) passed away recently, in the person of Mr David McKenzie. Mr McKenzie was a Justice of the Peace,, and had for many years taken a worthy part in the affairs of the district. ' '
