FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE.
The announcement <oif an outbreak of foot 'and (mouth disease among the stock of Great .Britain will be received 'with regret 'in. all parts of the Empire. Apparently tfte disease has been conveyed i'o England from County Dublin, and is spreading with alarming rapidity fin the (Northern Counties. Several of the overseas Dominions have already prohibited the importation, of istook from Britain in the meantime, and it may ibe necessary for New 'Zealand, in self-defence, to pursue a similar course, it' is satisfactory to know that the British Board of Agriculture is doing its best to grapple with the disease iby ordering the destruction of all cattle known to be affected. The disease, however, is so difficult of detection in its early stages as to render it .almost impossible to (prevent its) spread. Tiho last outbreak n'as in 19C8, when the visitation was traced to some hay imported from Holland.
