AMUSEMENTS
MINSTREL AND VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. AT THE TOWN HALL.
There, -was a good audience present at the Masterton Town Hall last evening, when, the English and American Minstrel and Vaudeville Company opened a three .nights' .season. The performance on the whole was good, while Bonie of the items were distinctly clever. The exposition of jiujitsu by Joe iG'ardiner 'and Florrie LeMar was something quite new, and this wonderful Japanese art is displayed in all iit« reality. In. the sketch entitled "The Lady and the Hooligan,''' the value of jiu-jitsu for selfdefensive .purposes is veiry cleverly shown.. .An invitation, to any member of the to test the validity of the various g/i'ips, was not accepted. The comic element was very well .sustained ihy Pat-Reeves in the song '"Way lit," while in "company with Bell, a very amusing comedy sketch was rendered, in whidh the artists had to respond "to an encore. The feinging of Misses .Gambier 'and Gields was 'also good, while "The Gaiety Oirls" aroused iquito an outburst of enthusiasm from the audience. The entertainment concluded witli a oneact comedy entitled "The. Telephone," in (which several of the Company are seen to good advantage. For those in search of an evening's light amusement, .a visit ito tilie Town Hall will repay them. The Company will s-how to-night, and will conclude the season to-morrow evening. This evening one or two gentlemen: will' test 'the jiujitsu holds of !Mks Le-Mar.
