A LABOUR-SAVING MACHINE.
When Mr /Murray, as Premier of Victoria, r-ecently visited Scotland, he was so imuch impressed by the up-to-date methods for dealing with potato Crops.- ithat he sneered one of the machines on the spot, and had it sent to Victoria for demonstration, purposes. The device is drawn by two horses, and by means of mechanical hands unearths the potatoes at great speed without causing damage. It is estimated that the machine is equal to 116 skSHed men. Practical exhibitions , have .already Ibeen given at Oakleigh, Brighton, .Waubra-, Ballarat, Warr-
namfbool, and throughout the Victoraara districts, and have much impressed farmers interested in the industry. The object of the ex(hiMtiions is to make a direct appeal to farmers, and to prove the advantages of laibouir-saving appliances as applied to agricultural (pursuits. Up to the present (mechanical potato-daggers 'have not (been popular, ■ but departmental experts i(isays the Argup) claim tliat the latest appliances aro free from the defects wliich tended to limit their usefulness.
