Mr, Mrs, and Miss Wolters, of Carterton, left Wellington on Friday on a visit to Sydney.

Brigadier Glover conducted the services at the Salvation Army barracksin Masterton yesterday. Bro. P. Smith, of the Masterton Oddfellows' Lodge, has been elected" lecture master to the Wairarapa Past Grand Lodge of Oddfellows.

Mr J); Guthrie, M.P. for Oroua, has. been appointed Senior Government 'Whip in succession to the Hon. R. H. Rhodes.

Mr C. X. Haslam leaves Masterton this afternoon for Wellington, wherehe will at once take up his duties as headmaster of the Island Bay school.

The Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) left Wellington for Otahuhu on Saturday morning on private business. He-returns to Wellington today.

A London cable states that the estate of the late Mr J. E. Nathan, formerly of Wellington, has been jroved at £100,685. The deceased left £250 to Jewish charities in New Zealand.

Mr F, E. Lamb, formerly of Masterton, who has been appointed town clerk at Te Kuiti, has received the appointment o'f buildf.ng inspector to the borough, at an increased salary of £25. .

Dr. W. H. Hosking, of Masterton, received a wireless message yesterday from Dr. Archer Hosking, who left for Sydney by the Ulimaroa on Friday with his bride:—"Calm weather; neither sick."

On Saturday evening, Mr D. M. Mcintosh, of the Masterton Post Office, who leaves this week for Oamaru, was presented by the staff with a very handsome travelling bag as a mark of the esteem in which he , is held. Short speeches eulogistic of Mr Mcintosh's work in the Masterton office, were made by Messrs S. Inder, Moore, Boagey, Fowles and Richards. Mr Mcintosh suitably responded.
