CABLE NEWS

(United Press Association—By 'Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)

THE READINESS OF GERMANY

CRAVSTY OF EVACUATING THE MEDITERRANEAN.

(Received July 8, 8.5 a.im.)

LONDON, July 7

Speaking at Fenny Stratford, in Buckinghairos'hire, the Right Hon. WH. Long commented dn the gravity od' England evacuating the Mediterranean. He hoped that after the manoeuvres the batllci'liips would return there.

Germany's naval law of 1912 made for the increased read.liess of her fleet available for immediate action by fifty .per cent. She had now twenty-nine battleships available for instant action •in the North Seaj, and Britain only twenty-seven. If the Government took the nation unreservedly into its confidence, whatever sacrifices were inecasairy for the safety of the Empire would be cheerfully made.
