The Matter team havo improved a great 'deal, and will have to bo reckoned with before the season caida Carterion. defeated Liberal by a good margin, 'the result practically giving the ■maroons a lead for championship 11011bnivs 1 , as tliey have yet to play another matdh with libera', which on Saturday's play should he a foregone conclusion. Rod Star redeemed themselves by defeating Grey town, putting ■them im a good winning position. The following are tho results of the various games:—
SENIOR, GLADSTONE (C) v. MASTERTON (0).
This was one of the Jicpt contested matches played this season, and although there was not much evidence of (back play, the game w:;s hard and (fast.. Gladstone kicked ofF, and Mas'terton found tlio lino. From tho line out Master ton 'took play to Gladstone's twenty-five, "where play was (confined for some time. A free kick awarded to Masterton. resulted in 3?aryill (making; a igoo'd attempt at goal, tho 'ball just 1 going outside. For Masterton, 'Darvill, 'Ya.tey and Hanlev played well at j back, mid in the forwards Spackman, 'Jolir.r-:on and 'Billington wore the pick For tlio Gladstone team, E. (Mason, Hiekson and P. Cowan played well at back, white Hodge, Henderson, Sexton, and the Johnston brothers did good work in the forwards. Mr Crosbie was referee.
RED STAR (3) v. tiKKV'IOWN (3;
This match, played' at Grey town, was well contested. The Star forwards played v.'£'ll together, and were ■responsible for the win. For Stars, | (Chamberlain and •Williams each scored '•a try, and Kuril scored for Greytown, 'the game ending— Stars 6, Greytown 3. Mr Jsicholls was referee.
CARTERTON (19) v. LIBERAL (3)
Carterton ■easily defeated Liberals at 'Carterton. The Carterton backs and forwards were much too good for their opponents, and liad the game in safe keeping from the kick ofF. Tries I were scored ffoi* Carterton bv H. Madden, iB. McKenzie, and S. Sievera, all of which 'were converted iby Whyte (2), i:uicl Sievors. V. Fairbrother also potted a goal. Sandyll scored for Liberals. Mir E. McKonzie acted as i referee. 1

BED STAR (18) v. LIBERAL (3)
The- Red Sitar team continued their victor-ions career on Saturday by defeating Liberal hy 18 to 3, after a •very one-sided igpime. This is the first *rirao -Red Star have had amy -points scored -against them. For the winners S. Hoar (2), Vile, Lands.', Yates and 'Ewington scored l tries', and for the Josors Weiss crossed th-3 line. Mr ! Watersoiii iwas referee.
