The death occurred at Sanson on Saturday morning of Mrs Anderson, a sister of Miss Hutchens, mistress of the ISireaha school.

The friends of Mr J. H. Pauling, of' Masterton, will be pleased'to h~ar th.it he is sufficiently recovered from .his recent illness to be able to get out a. little.

The Hpn. C. M. Luke, M.L.C., was a visitor to Carterton on Friday last.

Mr D. McLaehlan has been selected to represent the Masterton Racing: Club at the meeting of the executive of the country Racing Clubs, 'to beheld in Wellington on the 19tli inst.

The .Rev. E. T. Olds underwent an operation for appendicitis at tlie Masterton Hospital on Friday evening. He has since been in a. rather low condition, but was last night reported to> be making fairly satisfactory progress.

Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., though notquite recovered from an attack of mumps, was able to return to his home iii Masterton on Saturday night. He returns to Wellington to-night.

Mr P. McGuire. Grey town, has been appointed' a member of the senior selection committee of the Wai'rarapn Rugby Union, and Mr F. Roydhouse of the junior selection committee. Mr Claude August, who has for a number of years been a prominentmember of the Carterton football club, was on Saturday last presented by his club mates with a handsome marbleclock on the occasion of his recent

Mr Allan A. Cameron, of Te Ore, Ore, had the misfortune to have his leg and ankle seA-erely crushed through a horso trading on it. Messrs John Strang and Bland Rayner have been nominated for the positions of Vice-President, and Mr D. Caselberg for tho position of Treasurer.
