Clerc has boon arrested on a, charge elf bribing a man named •Pa.iwa.ti, who until recently was an. inmate of ia lunatic asylum, to murder her husband, a well-to-do artist engraver. Par.rat had 'hidden in Clerc's •bor.se for two da.vs. He- accosted the tpa,:'r while ivtunming from the theatre, and fatally shot the* husband. The wife gave £CO francs to Parrat, who escaped. Under cross examination ,a servant cii-.l enabled the uytectives to force Madame Clerc to confees.
