The Australian and Yorkshire teams commenced a match to-day. Australia won the toss and hatted. The weather was dull, but the wicket was excellent. Jennings and Kelleway faced the howling of Hirst and Booth. ' Both batsmen played well. The partnership was interrupted by Jennings being run out. Macartney and Kelloway made a splendid stand, adding 110 runs to the score. Fifty appeared in 55 minutes, and frequent changes of bowling >vr>re made. Kelleway was very careful, . and took fifty-five minutes to reach 1 double figures. He received much barrack for his slow play. He gave a chance at 7.' Macartney was good all round. He made 50 in 70 minutes, hoisting the century in 105 minutes with a good stroke. The bowling lacked sting. At lunch the score stood at 1 for 134. On resuming Hirst and Booth opened th'e bowling. Kelloway, in the second over, was taken in the slips, after batting 125 minutes. Macartney and Bardsley added 00. Macartney gave a superb display ot cutting and driving, his innings being chanceless. He hit twelve fours, and was 115 minutes at the wickets. Bardsley and Gregory were careful. The former gave a chance at 27, being taken brilliantly low down, right-hand-ed at short-leg. Two hundred was hoisted in 180 minutes. Minnett gave a chance at 25, and was taken brilliantly, left-handed, at high cover. Ho gave a sound display, and. hit six fours. Rhodes and Wilson opened the Yorkshire inninsg to Matthews and Whitty. Rhodes nt 14 played Whitty J on to his wicket. j Wilson and Denton were not separ- | ated when stumps were drawn, owing to bad light. Scores: —
